We watched my dad finish a marathon this weekend. It was the first marathon I had ever been to and as we waited in the growing St. George heat for my dad to pass, I got to watch many touching scenes. Runners cramping up and struggling to make it across the finish line. Others throwing up or collapsing in the road - but getting back up with the help of other runners or medical teams. A man in a wheel chair being pushed the whole way by a friend. Women in pink supporting breast cancer. Old runners. Young runners. Runners holding hands as they neared the finish line. Runners crying in pain and joy.
And then I saw my dad. 26 miles and he didn't even look tired. He had a big grin on his face and ran over to us. I got a little emotional. I was very proud of him. He is someone that I look up to in everything and he inspires me to be a better person. And maybe a better runner :)
Good job Dad! You are awesome and we love you!
(And good job to my brother-in-law Taylor - who also finished the marathon, but who I did not get to see or photograph. My not-so-patient kids just couldn't handle life anymore. We love you too! Sorry!!!)
