Here's what happened this Christmas 2010:
-I went skiing for the first time in 14 years. In high school I became a snowboarder and never looked back. I was a little nervous about skiing, especially skiing with Caton and my Dad (neither of them known for their patience on the slopes) but it turns out skiing is a little like riding a bike. After a few runs I got the hang of it again and thanks to my brother-in-law Taylor - who was even rustier than me - I got to mosey along at my own pace. Caton and Dad were surprisingly patient (at one emotional point Caton suggested I call it quits and head towards the resort spa - what a good husband).
- Everyone got the stomach flu. Well, not everyone. Caton, Ryan, Belize, Layla, Jack, Isaac, and myself were miraculously spared. But that meant that 9 other people took turns vomiting for 24 hours - including little baby Eve (so sad). Our house was like a house of death. You could literally feel disease in the air. Luckily, the afflicted stayed mostly in the basement and the healthy supplied them with a steady stream of saltines, gatorade, and disinfectant. And eventually, one by one they emerged from the basement after the bug had passed. It was lots of fun.
- My mom almost got shot. Really, seriously! You think I'm being dramatic? Here's the story: My mom took a walk after a late breakfast Christmas morning. We live right across the street from the Oquirrh Mountain Temple and so she decided to tour the grounds. She walked around the north side of temple and as she walked to the south side she found herself within 50 feet of a man waving around a shot gun and yelling. He started yelling at her and she immediately turned and ran. She hid behind a car with some other walkers, made sure the police were called, then hitched a ride home. As she walked through our front door, she was in hysterics. Eventually we pieced together the story and then drove back over to the temple to give her statement to the police. The police had already "diffused" the situation (meaning they shot the guy because he wouldn't put down his gun) and discovered that his car had many more guns, ammunition, and swords. Crazy huh?
-We had our very first ever Hamilton Family Hidden Talent Show. I was a little skeptical about the whole thing at first, but in the end I don't think I have ever laughed as hard. I have been forbidden to post pictures or video but let me just say the following: Jack and Layla can be very silly, Brooke is a very talented song writer, Peter has excellent pedextarity, Matt is a talented noise maker, Belize can rap, Caton actually participated, Heather and Taylor have very animated lower faces, and Mom and Dad...let's just say costumes and swiss polka were involved with that one. Classic Hamilton fun.
Hope everyone had a very merry Christmas!
