Well, we have hit week 4 of being in the hospital. Noah is slowly getting better but the waiting is very frustrating. He failed his weekly gag test for the third time today. He needs to get his gag reflex back before they can start feeding him. Right now, he still has an NJ tube (through his nose into his intestines). Once he gets his gag reflex back, they will pull the tube up to his stomach and start training him to drink from a bottle. It may take a while for him to get his sucking reflex back and then have enough energy to finish a full feeding. In other words, we still have a long way to go.
It's very frustrating and disheartening to make such slow progress, but it helps to recall all the progress he has made in these last four weeks. He has gone from basic life support to smiling, moving his arms and legs, and tracking with his eyes in just a few short weeks. His head is still really floppy and his pupils are still a little slow to respond to light. and, as I said before, his gag reflex hasn't returned. But overall, he is improving.
I go to the hospital twice a day, every day. It gets a little tedious, but I waking up each morning aching to hold my little guy and can't wait to get to his room each day. I take pictures of him every day with my iphone. I keep forgetting to bring in my good camera. I still love my little instagram shots. He is getting pretty cute as he moves out of the newborn phase and into a real baby. I long for the day when his pictures don't show a yellow tube coming out of his nose. Hopefully soon...
This picture makes me laugh. Every night Caton and I go to the hospital to see Noah. We call it our nightly date and it always includes Diet Dr. Pepper, a grilled cheese sandwich, and mint m&ms from the hospital cafeteria.

On Saturday we took all the kids to the hospital and then to temple square.
