I got a call from Caton at about 8:30 this morning on his way to work. He noticed that there were cars parked up and down the streets by the new temple (currently under construction) and that people were setting up chairs and umbrellas apparently waiting for some big event. Turns out, the angel Moroni was being put on the spire today and people were lining up to see it.
I thought it may be worth checking out, so I got the kids dressed and headed over (just a few blocks) to see what was going on. After about an hour of waiting, we headed over to the nearest park with a temple view. The kids were having a good time playing, I had brought a few snacks, and the weather was actually very pleasant, so we stayed there and waited for another hour or so. Finally, I decided to call it quits and got the kids back in the car. Just as I drove by the construction site, I saw a glimmer of gold and got the kids out of the car to see the angel Moroni laying on the ground. It was amazing to see it up close--it's so big. By the time we took some pictures of the angel, word was spreading that it was just about time. So we waited some more (might as well, right?). At last, the angel was hooked up to the cranes and was hoisted up to the top of the temple spire.
Although it was nearly 11:30 am and the kids were definitely done, it was truly a neat experience to watch the temple being built. I explained the importance of the temple to Layla and for a few minutes, she seemed to grasp the significance of the experience. Then she said she was hungry and the moment was gone. Oh well...
Jack got a little bored while we waited. Notice he has on Layla's shoes.

Okay, I don't like to cheer for Utah because we wish you lived here, but how amazing! There are so many perks about having the church so relavant in your community. Such a special thing.
