My favorite part of the trip was day 3 when we went horseback riding. I grew up with horses and I jumped at the chance to go riding in Peru - especially riding peruvian pasos. A peruvian paso is a breed of horses known for their smooth gate. They are beautiful and they were so much fun to ride. We rode up the mountains to the salt mines and through the gorgeous hills of the Sacred Valley. We stopped for lunch at one of the oldest catholic churches in South America and then continued on to the Incan ruins of Moray. The weather was perfect, the views were amazing, and we even got a chance to run on some flat parts - which was heaven.
Rachel did not like the horseback riding. That's all I think I'm allowed to say about that.
On day 4, we took at train to Machu Picchu. The train was so awesome. The Hiram Bingham was a beautiful old fashion train. We sat in the dining car where we were served hot chocolate, croissants, and a brunch. There was a bar car with music and an observation car to watch our journey into the jungle of Peru. The train ride took about 3 hours and I was a little sad for it to end.
After we got off the train, we took a bus up some steep switchbacks to Machu Picchu. We checked into our hotel and then met our guide for a tour of Machu Picchu.
Machu Picchu was amazing. The views were amazing, the structures were amazing, the history is amazing...I can't even think of a better word to describe it all. The pictures speak for themselves. Breathtakingly beautiful.
That night we stayed in our hotel - right outside the gates of Machu Picchu.
Peruvian kids are seriously THE cutest kids ever. I really think I might adopt. This little guy started begging Caton for his Inca Kola drink. He tugged on Caton's pant leg, asked for the drink, and when Caton gave it to him, he waved and said "Ciao!" I nearly died.
There is a sun dial stone at Machu Picchu that is said to radiate energy. If you hold your hand over it, you can absorb the energy and be revitalized. See our hands hovering below.
This lady took it to the next level. Apparently, the sun dial is also some sort of time/space vortex as well. We were lucky enough to witness this lady perform some sort of meditation ritual that was both wacky and violent in parts. Very weird and very entertaining.
