South Africa/Dubai Part 5: Dubai and Abu Dhabi

The last few days of our trip we spent in Dubai. I thought it was going to be just a little extra to our already amazing trip, but it turns out that I loved Dubai the most. Dubai is awesome.

It is extravagant. It is excessive. It is clean, and large, and opulent. Everything is the biggest and best in the world: tallest building, largest mall, biggest indoor ski hill, only 7 star hotel, fastest roller coaster, biggest fountains. It's like Vegas on steroids minus the trashiness.

Our hotel was not cheap, but was one of the most affordable we could find. And it was amazing. By far the most luxurious hotel I have ever stayed in. And of course, it housed one of the world's largest spas (which Rachel and I used) complete with saunas, steam rooms, pools, and a snow room. What is a snow room? Literally a room full of snow. We lasted about 20 seconds in this room.

We walked around the world's largest mall, Caton and Levi took a few runs on the indoor ski hill, we watched the largest fountain show underneath the world's tallest building, walked along the persian gulf, rode camels in the arabian desert, and watched belly dancers while we ate a middle eastern meal.

On our last day, we drove to Abu Dhabi (about an hour away). We visited the palace (Abu Dhabi is the capital of United Arab Emirates) and then went to ferrari world. This is the world's largest indoor theme park and it's dedicated to ferraris. We rode the fastest roller coaster in the world. Acceleration: 0-240km/h in 4.9sec. It. Was. Fast.

After that we went to see the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque. We arrived just before sunset and it was beautiful. We had to remove our shoes, cover our arms and heads, and I could not hug or even touch Caton. I took a zillion pictures and watched the sunset turn this beautiful white mosque all shades of pink. It was amazing.

We finally drove to the airport and boarded our 16 hour flight to Atlanta. I was sad our trip had ended but I am always excited to see our little crazies at home. They missed us.

This is a mix of iphone and regular camera pics. I love them both.

Caton and on our Emirates flight to Dubai.

This is the outside of the world's only 7 star hotel. We weren't rich enough to even step inside.

This pictures cracks me up. Rachel is trying to take a picture of me, but it just looks like she is trying to get cell service. Americans.

I love seeing your photos after having just been there! It really is an awesome place. Can you imagine having to wear burqas and robes everyday in that heat? Makes me feel like I have it easy.

Michelle, I live in Saudi Arabia and just got back from Dubai and Abu Dhabi as well as Muscat. Your pictures are awesome and portrays how beautiful that part of the world is. The Grand Mosque and the Palace are some of the most beautiful places I have ever been. Dubai is incredible and it looks like you stayed at the same hotel we did!
