happy birthday isaac...

My baby is one! He seems so...not one. Maybe it's because he's my third or maybe it's because I sort of don't want him to grow up, but it just seems like he shouldn't be that old.

Here is what Isaac is like at 12 months:

He is not walking yet. Both Layla and Jack started walking well before their first birthday. Isaac...not so much. He stands alone, does that funny straight legged crawl, and zips from one end of the couch to the other - but not one free standing step. Doesn't really seem interested. And you know what? I don't really care. If that first step is the gateway between babyhood and toddlerness then I still want my baby.

He is so so snuggly. At 12 months Layla preferred to sit and watch everyone and Jack would fight against anything restraining. Isaac loves to snuggle. And not just sit on my lap - he likes to hug and rub his cheeks against mine. I love it.

He is still the chunkiest baby ever. All the 12-18 month shirts I buy slowly ride up his belly as he crawls around (Layla says we need to give him a lesson in modesty). And don't even get me started on his feet. They are so adorably fat I have even caught Jack kissing them (thought that was something only mothers did). I never put socks or shoes on the little guy because 1) Isaac pulls them off within seconds, and 2) they barely fit around his ankle rolls -- so really, what's the point.

He threw his first fit a few weeks ago. We switched him from bottle to sippy cup and he was not happy. I'd pour him milk in a sippy cup and he'd slap it away, worm around on the floor - crying - for a few minutes and then reach for his cup only to slap it away again (perhaps to prove his point). We were very amused by this whole process because Isaac is probably the most easy going baby EVER! We couldn't help but laugh that he finally choose to assert some willfulness over a sippy cup. However, the tantrums were short lived and now he is back to being his pleasant - sippy cup loving - self.

He claps and shakes his head "no" and does this straight armed salute (with one arm or sometimes two) when he wants to wave. He hasn't really said a legit first word - only "mamama" and very indiscriminately.

We all can't get enough of him. Layla showers him with attention and Jack smothers him - literally - with affection. Caton snuggles with him before work and I don't mind in the least carrying him around all day. We all love our little Ikey.

Happy Birthday!!

Happy birthday sweet Isaac!! My nephew will soon be turning one and Isaac and him would get along great with all their chunkyness!! It is just too cute to resist kissing those cheeks. I miss my snuggles from my Lizzie. Now she's too busy to notice me...or at least that is what seems like. Enjoy him!!

He is so yummy! I love him! And so fun that he shares his birthday with our little Scott. I can't believe Isaac is 1 already. Time goes too fast. So cute!
